Richard Dale Brown

Richard Dale Brown (age 83) of Cheney, Washington passed away March 1, 2022. Richard was born on January 9th, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA. As a young child he did a lot of moving and traveling, finally settling in Spokane, WA where he attended North Central High School. He went on to attend the University of Utah as well as Eastern Washington University. During this time he was also in the Army Reserves.

Richard married his wife of 50 years, Linda Rose, on March 27th 1959. They had three children and eventually moved to Cheney, WA where they built their home and the foundation of a tight knit family. Their pool was the favorite hangout for the kids and their friends, and later became the place to be for the grandkids and all their friends as well. It was always a party at the Brown’s house, whether it was BBQing and swimming, Saturday family dinners, or dancing to records and playing pool in the basement.

Richard truly enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Camping, trips to the lake and time on the boat with family were a summer time favorite. In the wintertime, he could be found pulling the kids on sleds behind the lawn mower. He enjoyed working in the yard and tending to his garden. He also had a passion for automobiles and took great pride in the ones he owned. Richard adored his animals, especially his numerous Norwegian Elk Hounds.

He worked for more than 35 years at Metallic Arts. He spent his final years surrounded by loving care at Legacy Gardens in Spokane. Richard was survived by his daughter Leeann Barton and her husband Randy of Cheney, WA; daughter in-law Sandy Brown; his sister Carol Ann Batten; his grandchildren Mandy (Ryan) Asher, Heidi (Justin) Monter, Michelle (Larry Gruel) Brown, Josh (Chelsea) Barton, and Meagan (Tim) Reinbold; along with 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda; his sons Larry Brown and Scott Brown; his sister Vickie Brown; and his parents. A memorial service will be held 12:30PM Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, WA followed by a graveside service at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
