Fairmount Info

FAIRMOUNT MEMORIAL PARK

Sitting high on the rim rock above the Spokane River, one can enjoy the breath taking view of Spokane's "Bowl and Pitcher" and Riverside State Park, while the stunning mid-century modern design of Sunset Mausoleum contrasts with the classical architecture of the many private mausoleums, offices and maintenance structures built in the early 20th century.

Originally established as Fairmount Cemetery on May 29, 1888, Fairmount Cemetery served as the Spokane community's "Official City and County Burial Ground". This cemetery park is made up of 160 acres with just over 80 developed.

MEMORIAL OPTIONS AT FAIRMOUNT

As one of Spokane's oldest cemeteries, and being established as what was considered in the day to be a modern approach to cemeteries, its also undeniably beautiful.  The combination of amazing natural scenery, inspiring views, and historic monuments and architecture make Fairmount today what it has been for generations: a premier park for memorialization, reflection and the honoring of loved ones.

Fairmount Memorial Park currently has 60,000 interments, with 74,000 interment rights sold and room for an additional 10,000.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Fairmount Cemetery was established May 29th in 1888 and was the growing community of Spokane's second modern cemetery.

Fairmount, like Greenwood and Riverside, is the final resting place for many of the community’s early pioneers and city developers - people from the mining, lumbering, railroading, banking, city development, and governing arenas.

But these prominent individuals are not the only Spokane figures buried here.

So are the common laborers from those same professions, the indigent, and the unidentified.

A walk through the grounds will reveal a span of history from Washington Territory days to present-day, as noted by the headstones of Territorial representatives, and State senators and governors.

People such as Reverend and Mrs. Havermale, Senator Dill, Mr. and Mrs. Browne, D. C. Corbin, Patsy Clark, and one of President Lincoln’s body guards, Frank Johnson to mention a few.
